Planning Trips with Halal Stops: The Muslim Traveler's Route Planner
Road trips and intercity travel often present a challenge for Muslim families. Standard GPS navigation details highways and generic rest stops but leaves travelers guessing when it comes to locating halal food, dry dining environments, and active prayer spaces along the route. Salatio’s Trip Planner & Travel Mode changes the way you navigate long-distance travel.
What We Do
Salatio provides focused navigation planning designed around Muslim travel needs:
- Route Mapping: Users input start and end destinations, and Salatio plots the route while flagging mosques and halal dining spots directly on the path.
- Travel Mode Activation: Provides dynamic notification alerts for close mosques or halal options as you approach them, reducing the need to look at your phone while driving.
- Saveable Itineraries: Lets users build complete travel itineraries, including event stops and community locations, saveable to their profiles.
What We Don't Do
We respect traveler privacy and focus on utility over marketing metrics:
- No Persistent Background Tracking: Background location tracking is activated only when you explicitly enable Travel Mode and grant "Always" location permissions. It stops completely when your trip is ended.
- No Private Trip Sharing: We do not publish your trip history or route logs to other users. Your journeys are stored securely and remain private.
- No Unreasonable Battery Drain: We don't constantly ping your GPS. Salatio is built to request location updates at efficient intervals (e.g., approximately every 1 kilometer or 10 minutes) during active navigation.
How We Do It
We combine navigation technologies with relational databases:
- Polyline Route Queries: When a route is calculated, our system analyzes the route polyline and queries database entries located within a set corridor width (e.g., 5 miles from the highway).
- Background Sync Integration: We utilize background location sync APIs to match your coordinates to the route template, sending alerts via push notifications.
- Database Caching: Map routes are cached temporarily to minimize API calls and load times, keeping the navigation experience smooth even in low-signal areas.
