How Halal Badges Work on Salatio: Our System Explained
Finding an authentic halal restaurant should not involve second-guessing the menu or endlessly calling the staff. At Salatio, we believe in transparency. That's why we've implemented a clear badge system to display helpful dining details directly on our platform, giving you peace of mind before you even walk through the door.
What We Do
Salatio categorizes and visually tags dining spots using distinct, easy-to-understand badges based on available menu information and certificates:
- Fully Zabihah Halal: A green badge indicating that the venue reports serving certified hand-slaughtered Zabihah meat and does not serve alcohol on the premises.
- Partial Halal / Halal Options: A yellow badge showing that while the restaurant serves halal meat (like chicken or lamb), they may also serve non-halal items or alcohol. We specify the exact halal items in the description.
- Muslim-Owned: A dedicated badge for businesses owned and operated by members of the Muslim community, allowing you to support local entrepreneurs.
- Pork-Free / Alcohol-Free: Badges indicating the absence of pork or alcohol, clarifying menu constraints even where full Zabihah certs are not applicable.
What We Don't Do
We believe in maintaining absolute transparency and avoiding misleading assumptions:
- No Assumptions: We do not automatically mark a restaurant as halal simply because it serves Middle Eastern, Turkish, or South Asian cuisine.
- No Hidden Information: If a restaurant uses machine-slaughtered meat or only sources halal chicken while the beef is not halal, we do not hide it. We display these details directly on the restaurant's profile.
- No Claims of Certification: Salatio is not a certifying body. We do not issue halal certifications ourselves, nor do we claim to independently verify the absolute halaal status beyond presenting the documents and claims provided by vendors and communities.
How We Do It
Our badge system combines community documentation with clear visual cues:
- Documentation Presentation: We request and display halal certification documents or meat supplier information submitted directly by the businesses.
- Visual Badge Layout: We display these badges prominently on the search results and business profiles, using universally recognizable icons so you can make decisions at a glance.
- Community Reporting: We empower our users to flag changes. If a restaurant changes ownership, meat suppliers, or menu options, users can report it through the app to update the status.
