Enhanced Halal Filtering: Search Based on What Matters
A simple "halal" label is often not enough. Some users look strictly for hand-slaughtered (Zabihah) options, while others search for dry (non-alcoholic) environments, family dining rooms, or places with on-site prayer facilities. Salatio’s Enhanced Halal Filtering allows you to customize your search parameters to find exactly what aligns with your preferences.
What We Do
Salatio provides multi-tier database tags and filters to help you customize searches:
- Slaughter Method Filters: Filter establishments by whether they serve hand-slaughtered or machine-slaughtered meat.
- Amenity & Property Filters: Look specifically for restaurants with dedicated prayer areas, wudu space, wheelchair accessibility, or children's zones.
- Ownership & Certificate Tags: Categorize businesses by certified status (valid third-party certs) and Muslim-owned verbal assurances.
What We Don't Do
We outline clear boundaries regarding the data we present:
- No Independent Certification Guarantees: We do not certify menus ourselves or act as an Islamic certifying body. We catalog self-reported disclosures and certified documents transparently.
- No Hiding of Expired Certificates: If a vendor's certificate has expired and they haven't uploaded a renewal, our filters display a warning on their profile rather than hiding the status.
- No Forced Preferences: We don't prioritize one slaughter method over another in search algorithms. The user retains control over their filters.
How We Do It
Our search architecture uses structured database schemas and state-driven filters:
- Structured Data Tagging: When businesses register or update profiles, they select fields from an options set, creating relational query filters.
- Dynamic SQL/NoSQL Filtering: Queries dynamically filter search results by longitude, latitude, cuisine type, and chosen tags (e.g., `has_prayer_space: true`).
- User-Flagging Mechanism: If a business's amenities or halal status changes, users can flag the listing. The report is reviewed by administrators, keeping the index clean.
